Olympic Torch and Olympos
After the demanding trail of the previous day, the day is reserved for rest in Çıralı. There is an option to take a short hike to Yanartaş (Chimaera), where natural gases ignite eternal flames among the rocks. The experience is especially striking at sunset or in the evening. For those interested in history, a visit to the ancient city of Olympos is also recommended. According to legend, the name “Olympics” is linked to Olympos, a story referenced by Homer

Bellerophontes, riding his winged horse Pegasus, goes to fight Chimera. When Chimera attacks, Pegasus takes flight, and as Bellerophontes lands, he drives his spear into the beast and buries it seven layers beneath the earth. However, Chimera continues to burn, spewing flames from the depths of the earth. According to Homer, these still-burning flames are the fires of Chimera erupting from seven layers below.

To celebrate Bellerophontes' victory, a race is held in Olympos. The athletes light their torches with the Sacred Fire of Chimera and run toward the city of Olympos. Thus, the first example of the Olympic Games in Anatolia takes place. The "Olympic Torch" lit today is a symbolic representation of Chimera’s eternal fire.
